Your perfect cup

Three recipes, the garnishes, and everything else worth knowing.

Start here

Ninety seconds. Three steps, hot or iced.

1

Make the shot. Pour 3–4 tbsp of hot water into a small bowl or pitcher first — around 160°F, not boiling — then add one level scoop of Velvet Spice. Powder onto water dissolves more easily than the other way around. Whisk until completely smooth. No lumps, no grit. This is the step that matters.

2

Sweeten now, while it's hot. Honey, syrup, sugar — whatever you like. It won't dissolve once the milk is in. We like 1-2 tsp honey.

3

Add milk.
Iced: fill a glass with ice, add 6-7 oz cold milk, pour the shot over the top.
Hot: pour the shot into 7–8 oz hot milk.

3 ways we drink PinkDawn

The ones we keep coming back to.

The Golden Hour iced pink chai with cardamom honey cold foam
Recipe 01

The Golden Hour

Iced, honeyed, with a cardamom cold foam on top. Our 3pm order.

Makes 1 cup · 3 minutes

For the latte 1 level scoop Velvet Spice
3–4 tbsp hot water (160°F)
2 tsp honey
6–7 oz cold milk
Ice
For the cold foam 3 tbsp heavy cream, cold
1 ½ tbsp whole milk, cold
1 tsp honey
A pinch of finely ground cardamom
A pinch of salt
1

Whisk the scoop with hot water until completely smooth. Stir in the honey now, while it's hot.

2

Fill a tall glass with ice. Add the cold milk, leaving about 2 inches at the top.

3

Pour the shot over the milk. Don't stir yet — this is the part worth watching.

4

Froth the cream, milk, honey, cardamom, and salt for about 30 seconds — thickened but still pourable, like melted ice cream. Trust us, don't skip the salt.

5

Spoon it over the top and finish with a dusting of cardamom and optional drizzle of honey.

The Slow Morning hot pink chai latte held in both hands
Recipe 02

The Slow Morning

Hot, unhurried, simple. The one we drink when we want something cozy.

Makes 1 cup · 2 minutes

FOR THE LATTE 1 level scoop Velvet Spice
3–4 tbsp hot water (160°F)
1 tsp honey, or to taste
7–8 oz whole milk, heated until steaming
Optional: Crushed pistachios and dried rose petals
1

Whisk the scoop with hot water until smooth. Stir in the honey.

2

Heat the milk until it steams but doesn't boil. Froth it if you like — it isn't required.

3

Pour the shot into the mug first, then the milk over it. You'll get a better swirl that way.

4

Optional: sprinkle crushed pistachios and rose petals over the top and leave for a minute before you drink.

The Weekday iced pink chai with oat milk on a desk
Recipe 03

The Weekday

Dairy-free, lightly sweet, one glass and a spoon.

Makes 1 cup · 2 minutes

FOR THE LATTE 1 level scoop Velvet Spice
3–4 tbsp hot water (160°F)
2 tsp maple syrup
6–7 oz cold oat milk (barista blend, if you have it)
Ice
1

Pour the hot water into a heat safe glass, then sprinkle the scoop over it. Powder onto water dissolves far more easily than water onto powder.

2

Stir with a long spoon until smooth, about twenty seconds. Add the maple now, while it's hot.

3

Fill with ice, pour the oat milk over, and stir gently.

Worth keeping around

None of these are necessary. All of them are nice.

Flaky salt. A pinch on foam. Makes the sweetness land.
Ground cardamom. Over the top, right before you drink it.
Dried rose petals. For a subtle infusion in the hot version, or for the aesthetics.
Crushed pistachios. On foam. Texture, and it belongs with these spices.
Cinnamon stick. In hot cups. Leave it a minute before drinking.

If something's off

The powder clumped

Spices respond to heat. If your pouch sat somewhere warm on its way to you, the powder may firm up. Nothing's wrong with it — press it with the back of your scoop and it loosens right up. Keep it sealed somewhere cool and dry.

It didn't dissolve all the way

Usually the water. Too cool and it won't dissolve; boiling and it scorches. Around 160°F is the range. Whisk the shot for a full twenty seconds before adding milk — that's where smoothness comes from, not from more stirring later.

It's too strong, or too mild

Easiest lever is the milk — less for stronger, more for lighter. If you want a bigger cup, scale the powder, sweetener, and milk up with it.

The color's not right

Milk is usually why. The pink comes from the shot meeting enough fat and opacity to soften it — whole milk gives the truest blush, oat is close behind. Almond, skim, and 2% are thinner, so the shot stays red instead of blooming into pink.

If the color's deeper than you expected, add a little more milk. Too light, use less. The ratio does most of the work here.

Storing it

Sealed, somewhere cool and dry, away from the stove and out of direct sun. Reseal fully each time. Don't refrigerate — condensation is what actually causes clumping.
